Welcome to the homepage for the Great Rappahannock Whitewater Canoe and Kayak Race, now in its 31st year. This family friendly event is designed to be as competitive or relaxed as each racer makes it, from the father/daughter tandem class to the ACA Middle States Division Whitewater Championship. The event both supports and is supported by the local community, including the Friends of the Rappahannock, the Virginia Outdoor Center, and local fire and rescue.

a down-river view of the race course on the rappahannock river.

This year we are pleased to partner with E3 Kids, a non-profit organization that focuses on education for orphans by supporting schools in Africa started by locals with a desire to improve their community.

The numerous solo and tandem races include 1 mile sprints, five mile downriver races, and the 20 mile marathon race starting on the Rapidan River and finishing at Old Mill Park in Fredericksburg.

New this year will be a river celebration party after the day’s events have concluded. It will include great food, an award ceremony for racers, and some fantastic live music! Even if you don’t plan on racing, we hope that you and your family will join us at Old Mill Park Saturday afternoon as we celebrate the Rappahannock with food, friends, and music!

We have many events and activities to keep you and your family busy and active all day. E3 Kids will be at Old Mill Park with us and has some great things planned for what is sure to be a wonderful day outside.
